My Blogging Persona

I always get compliments on my headbands, outfits, etc. when I’m at blogging events.  People who see me all the time, know the real Julie.  I’m usually wearing one of my two favorite pairs of Lucky jeans, and some kind of t-shirt.  I will also have a pair of Chucks on.  This is the “Julie Uniform.” Oh, and you can’t forget the iPhone stuck in my back pocket.

I attend a few blogging conferences and events per year.  These events are like the “Bloggers Prom” for me.  I usually get my hair cut and colored, along with a fresh pedicure.  I pack my best clothes, and of course, my hair accessories. And I ALWAYS wear make-up at events.  I NEVER wear make-up in my “real life”.  I’m such a slacker.

I took the photo above with my Photo Booth program on my Macbook.  I edited it only a little with Shake It on my iPhone.  I just took this photo. Notice the brown roots, no make-up, and of course, my iPhone4 in the Sanrio case.

I was thinking about all of this after watching Amanda on What Not To Wear.  She was talking about her “blogging persona” and about humor on her blog.  I completely agree with this.  I somewhat portray a “persona”, that I try to not portray. My writing is totally me though.  I am actually a lot more obnoxious in person, like seriously. And don’t try to call me, because you will never get off the phone.  I’m a Chatty Cathy.

Do you have an online or blogging persona?  Do you have any questions that you want to ask me?  Let me know!

Oooh. This is quite the topic, ehh? I am a version of my real self at conferences. I don't have my kids at conferences so I think I have a funner energy because I am not fighting with anyone to brush their teeth, find their shoes and go-to-sleep-n-stuff. I dress-up at conferences. Not so much in my day-to-day here at home/virtual workplace. But I like to dress up sometimes when I go grocery shopping. Because I'm a bit of an attention whore... and when I put on make-up and get my "conference look" on, I get ALL KINDS of compliments. I like that. I like that a lot. :)

Um yeah my blog persona has a clean house with in every pictures and a nice profice pic. In my real life I blog in pajamas at night with a freshly scrubbed face while the laundry and dishes pile up. I like you either way

My blog persona has clean counter tops for all her pictures. The real me has Oreo crumbs on the counter and table, then quickly sweeps them to the side for blog pictures.

Hi AJ, can I call you AJ? We're friends and all, right? At least 'blog friends' or 'twitter friends', yes? OK. The most important thing with your 'blog persona' is that you are consistent. There's nothing wrong with wanting to dress nice and wear makeup when you're 'going out'. Especially if for your daily job it's not part of that uniform. You have a blog conference uniform, and it's probably more you than you think. As for the sarcastic, I've never seen it. You've always been sweet as a mint julep. Even when I pretend to meet you for the first time - at every conference. The think is, you're probably just as nice with your everyday persona as you are with your blog persona. And that's what really is most important. With gratitude and respect, Sara

I've thought about starting a blog, but am afraid that my smart-assy sarcastic nature won't come across as funny & would just offend ppl....since I've been told I'm too smartassy & depressing on Facebook; but then again WTH would read my blog? So maybe I should try & just do it for myself??

I like to pretend that I'm the same person on my blog as in real life... but let's be honest... I had my hair done, painted my toenails, and bought a new dress for boot camp... because if I'd shown up in my current attire (Dr. Seuss pajamas) I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have made a good first impression

i am pretty much the same on my blog as i am in real life. i love being a goofball all the time. i am actually more humorous in real life than on my blog simply because i am not great at translating the humor over to my writing.

Everyone who knows me IRL says my blog comes across exactly as I am in person which makes me happy to hear, I would hope that my image online is consistent with the real Linz. Now ask about profile pics, when I recently updated mine, my family crawled out of the woodworks to ask if that was REALLY me?? I told them I was just an alien abduction victim, no worries still me. They didn't see the humor in that at all. HA!

I am pretty much just like you would see or "hear" me on my blog. You'll also find me in one of my favorite pair of Lucky jeans and a sweatshirt. Nothing fancy, just me.

Since I'm going to my first blogging event in two week (BBC San Diego) I guess we'll see if my online persona is the same or different than my off-line one. I don't know - I like to think I'm the same person, but you are right: I will be coloring my hair and painting my nails right before and of course I'll be wearing my painstakingly thought-out clothes and expensive make-up.
