Mouth Guards Without Sports

When you hear of someone getting a mouth guard, you instantly think of someone who plays sports. You go to any sporting goods store and see a variety of sizes and colors.  But I’m not looking for a mouth guard for sports.  I had to get ANOTHER bite guard for my mouth, for sleeping.

This is the second time I’ve had a bite guard.  I had the first one for several years.  In 2008, I got veneers on my top teeth, which completely changed my bite.  I’ve been waiting awhile (heck, they are expensive) to get a new bite guard. I picked up my new pretty one today.

I hate that I have to wear this every night, but it prevents more dental hazards.  I have a really bad problem with night grinding.  I have had root canals and crowns put on all of my molars from my grinding. I’ve had some of my molars crowded twice because I’ve cracked the crowns.

Mouth Guard for Night Grinding

So now I have my super expensive acrylic night guard which was specially made for me. The worst part, when I’m wearing it, I have a really bad lisp and Angry Husband makes fun of me. Ugh, but it is completely worth of it, if I get proper sleep and I don’t wake up with a headache tomorrow.

Yes, all of my grinding is from stress.  I would like someone to take all of this stress out of my life, pretty please? Well, most if it is caused by me. Note to self: must be less OCD and ADD. Is that possible?

I can totally relate! I have had a hard acrylic retainer for the past 3 years and will soon be getting braces for TMJ which started as night grinding. My hubby really wants to see that movie "Date Night" He about pees his pants everytime he sees that part where she takes her retainer out. He says to me "hahaha That is sooo You". Yeah, pretty funny stuff. Let us know the outcome.

Hang in there Julie - I've been wearing night guards for years! =( I have severe TMJ and have even clenched so hard in my sleep that I've broken two of mine. I've had jaw surgery too (ugh). My husband STILL makes fun of me, but waking up most mornings without pain is worth the torment. Although...I do like the biting husband comment! bwahahaha ;-)

My husband has the SAME guard. And the same lisp. He likes to accentuate it when he talks to me. So funny.

I do the same thing except I grind my front teeth. I'm not sure how I settled on the front teeth but it's awful because you can actually see how much I've ground my teeth down. I had a bite guard - I bit through it :)

My daughter might have to start to wear one as well. She grinds at night. Sometimes I can hear her all the way in my room. Suspecting she is stressed too.

We could be twins... the root canals, broken crowns, and night guards... Except I've got you on one... I have 2 night guards (top and bottom) because I have broken through them before!

I wear a retainer so I know how that is at night! This remindes me of the movie Date Night that just came out. There's a scene when she puts her retainer/mouthguard in and her husband was all, "Oh ok. Guess we won't mess around" and so she takes it out with all this drool lol and he was like "ok I changed my mind" it was funny.

I had a "bite plate" made for me when I was in college, because I was getting terrible migraines and after we figured out it wasn't my eyes, we thought it might be from me clenching my teeth at night. But it wasn't as cool as yours - I couldn't even close my lips around it! I hated it. I think I used it twice. Good luck!

Ugh, I really need a night guard only I have been to cheap to buy one. Maybe I should give in a get one because grinding my teeth at night is driving me crazy.

If anyone sees it, though, you can tell them that you're a competitive kickboxer. Maybe that will cut down on stress from other people.

When wearing your bite guard, bite your husband if he makes fun of you with your bite guard. That would relieve stress and add more fun in your relationship. My opinion though :)

My mouth feels so much better. It's just hard to remember to put it in every time. Wow, braces...that sounds expensive.
