Barbie is All Dolled Up at Harvey’s

Last Thursday, I attended a special preview event at Harvey’s Seatbeltbags.  They were launching their new Barbie Collection, which will be Limited Edition.  I took my mom with me, since she is a huge fan of Barbie. I didn’t know that the traffic would be so bad that night, because our usual fifteen minute drive took over forty-five minutes. Upon our arrival, we noticed a huge line.  I guess everyone else had the same idea, as there were tons of Harvey’s fans.

Waiting in line for the Harvey's Newest Bag

We were at the back of the line, if you wanted to know.  It was quite cold outside also, somewhere in the 50′s, which is freezing for Southern California.  My mom kept herself occupied with talking to people about the Laker’s game.  While were in line, one of their employees came around with a basket to collect names for raffle prizes.  We arrived late, and did not know when the raffle would start.  I guess we timed it right, because they started the raffle a few minutes later. I walked around the crowd while we continued to wait.  I was able to capture a photograph of the front store window.

A few minutes after walking around, I heard my name called.  I was shocked and surprised because I had won something in their raffle.  It was probably a good thing that I brought my mom because she is ALWAYS lucky at raffles and drawings.  I went inside the store and claimed my prize, a beautiful Lola Ruffle Tote Rose.  I then realized that my mom was still outside, so I went out and grabbed her.  We probably would have waited at least forty-five more minutes to get inside the door, as it was packed full of people. After we went inside, they gave away one more purse and some Vintage Barbies.  I took a photo of the crowd on the second floor of the business.

Lola Cosmetics was upstairs in the third floor of the business doing makeovers, and they all were taking photos with a Barbie Prop. I saw that there were several people ahead of me, so I didn’t get a chance to have a makeover, but I left with a great lipgloss in a goodie bag.

After going downstairs from visiting Lola Cosmetics, I went looking for my mom. Of course, she was standing near the candy buffet and dessert bar.

I get hungry all over again, just looking at that picture. I loved the chocolate covered Oreos. I think I might have to make some for my very own. I waited a little bit for the crowd to thin out, as I was trying to take some photographs of the new line of purses.

DSC_0078 I just had to show these awesome Vintage Barbies that they had on display from Barbie for the party.

So you are probably wondering, did I buy anything from the new Barbie Collection? Well, I bought  a Barbie Minnie Wristlet & Coin Purse for Angry Kid’s teacher.  Her birthday was last Friday, and she is a huge Barbie fan.  She loved the coin purse.

Isn’t my new purse pretty? And the best part, I won it!

Harveys Limited Editions 2010

I’m a huge fan of Harveys Seatbeltbags.  Especially since they are a local company from Orange County.  I always get compliments on my bags, especially when I travel out of the area.  I have been known to shove everything but the kitchen sink into my bag.  I may have even used my bag as a camera bag too.  Every year Harveys comes out with Limited Edition bags to add to their already awesome collection.  I saw on Harveys’ blog that they were releasing their newest “Limited Editions” on Saturday, the 20th.

I debated off and on about going to the event.  I had to work late the night before, and if I didn’t go, I could sleep in.  Well, our front door was being painted on Saturday morning. Guess who rang our doorbell at 8am, right on the dot? Yes, the painter.  So since I was up, I started checking Facebook.  I saw that the Harveys’ Facebook page stated “that people were already lining up”.  So I took a minute, and then promptly jaunted to the shower.  I think Angry Husband was shocked to see me up that early, as Angry Kid was still asleep. I said something to Angry Husband like, “I’m going to Harvey’s, limited edition purse, people standing in line, going to get a Monster, and will call you in a bit”, and when on my way.

It was a beautiful day, and I was greeted by other Harveys’ fans at their store in Santa Ana.  I got there about an hour before they opened and the line was already wrapping around the building.  The gracious employees were walking around modeling the new awesome bags.  I knew instantly that I wanted, well needed, one of their new bags.  This would be my second “Limited Edition” as Monique bought me the Wahoo’s Bag in 2008.  Their are only 250 of the bags in each type.  They were passing out numbers to the people in line.  I chose my number and my bag. Yes, I got my golden ticket.

The Golden Ticket to my bag

While in line, I was able to chat with the other “fans”. I will call them “fans” because wow, I thought I had a purse collection. These people put me to shame. I have five Harveys’ purses, and some other accessories.  There were people whom had twenty five plus bags.  I am quite the collector of purses and shoes, but I think I would have to use an entire room to display/store a collection like this.  I seriously love the people from Harveys. They are awesome.  They’ve even heard of my blog, maybe because I comment on their blog a lot.  I love everything about this company and I’m a huge supporter of local businesses.

The People of Harvey's

I was taking their picture from afar, as I didn’t want to lose my place in line.  I think I saw at least thirty different types of purses while I was in line.  I saw many that I gasped about.  I have complete regrets about not purchasing some of the bags.  But I will not have any regrets this year, because I was getting my special bag.  When I got my chance to go inside the store, I did not immediately head to the cash register.  I chose to look around instead.  It had been a few months since I’d been there.  I can’t go into their store without buying something. So I try and gain some self control over myself by not going in.  Shocking really, if you know me well enough.  I loved the time and effort that they put in for this event.  They served coffee and candy, to go with their themed bags.  Since I’m not a coffee drinker, I headed towards the candy buffet.

Candy Buffet @ Harvey's

After gathering some candy, and talking to the owner of Harveys, Dana Harvey, I headed back downstairs to make my special purchase. While I was downstairs, I took some photographs of the new bags.  My pictures of the bags aren’t the best, because I was having flash issues.

The Sugar Plum or "Candy" BagThe “Sugar Plum”

The "Coffee" Bag 2010 LTD EditionThe “Venti Upside-Down, Soy Caramel Macchiato with Sugar-free Vanilla Syrup and a extra shot of espresso w/whip” or as I would like to call it, “The Coffee Purse”

Well, if you can tell from my Golden Ticket, I got “The Coffee Purse”.  I will call it “The Coffee Purse” as I’m way too ADD to remember the entire name.  I could also call it, “The awesome limited edition purse with the really long coffee name”. What do you think?  I was pretty excited as I made my purchase.  I even took it out in my front yard for a photo shoot when I got home.  I tried to get the best lighting for my photos, and it was way too dark in my house.

My Coffee Bag

I’m in love, all over again…

and I don’t even drink coffee.

P.S. My photos might not reflect the true colors of the purses. Like I said, flash issues. And I have a thing for “color washes”. Leave me alone. I’m not a pro photographer by any means.

My Favorite Things in 2009

I wanted to share some of my favorite things that I have received or purchased within the past year. I’m a total consumer, I admit that. But almost all of these have helped me make my life easier, more relaxed, and helped with time management.

My Macbook
macbook

I should have switched to Apple over a year ago.  I’m in love with my Macbook.  I got rid of my Dell laptop on Craig’s list and saved up money to buy my Macbook. One of the best things I’ve done in 2009. I have no clue on what I was doing at first, but took some great FREE classes at the Apple store.

My iPhone 3gs
iPhone

Angry Husband’s cellphone died in September.  He could not find any Verizon phones that he wanted.  He had been begging for an iPhone for months.  I really really really loved my Blackberry Curve. But since we have a shared cellphone plan, I agreed to switch.  I love all of the FEATURES that the iPhone has.  I’m not really sold on AT&T’s service though. Plus, it’s a lot harder to text message. But overall, the pro’s outweigh the con’s.

Rainbow Sandals

Rainbow Sandals
My BFF, Stacey, is an avid Rainbow Sandal wearer.  Really, these are the only shoes that Stacey wears. She hates shoes.  I’ve always been a Birkenstock girl. I’ve had Birkenstock’s since 8th grade.  My friend, Londie, bought me my first pair of Rainbow Sandals.  I’ve been an addict ever since then.  I have two pairs. I like the WestCape style. They are a bit wider. I usually buy the men’s style.

Oakley Vertical Computer Bag 3.0

After buying my Macbook, I wanted the perfect bag to carry it around in.  I searched high and low for weeks. I wanted something durable, yet stylish.  I selected the Oakley Vertical Computer Bag 3.0. It comes in titanium and black. I have the titanium one. Angry Husband covets this bag. He borrowd it recently for a business trip, and he has raved ever since about this bag.

Chicago Metallic Mini Cheesecake Pan
Mini Cheesecake Pan

I recently purchased this pan to make these brownies. I’ve had cheesecake pans before, but I think they got lost in the pan graveyard.  I was amazed at how easy the brownies came out of this pan.  Angry Husband was just as impressed as I was.  I can see many more treats being made with this pan.  I don’t think I will ever make square brownies again.

Harvey’s Seatbeltbag in Convertible Style Tote-Forever Blue Jeans
Harvey's Seatbeltbag

I got this purse in the Spring. I use it all the time.  I like the fact the it’s big, but not huge. I can fit my wallet, my cellphone, keys, and many other things in it. I also am able to fit my DSLR camera (Nikon D60), when I need to. I don’t have to carry two bags anymore (camera bag and purse).  The strap adjust so you can wear it messenger style or you can make it smaller and put it on your shoulder.

Expedit Shelving Unit

I was introduced to the Expedit Shelving Unit by my BFF, Stacey. She used these in her business.  I recently did a project in my hallway closet using this shelving unit.  We have begun a makeover on Angry Toddler room also.  I have this shelf turned sideways in his closet for toy storage.

Oakley iPhone Case V.2

oakleycase

This was the first case, and probably only case I will get for my iphone. Yes, it is huge, and industrial looking.  But it’s also solid, and very easy to remove. It is made of rubber.   I’ve dropped my iPhone many many many times, and this case has protected it perfectly.

lululemon Flow Y Bra IV
Lulemonflowybra

I’m a runner, I swear! I just haven’t had a ton of time lately to run, and to also post about it.  I haven’t done a race since the 4th of July. Ye gads, that’s a long time. But race season is coming up.  I purchased the lululemon Flow Y Bra IV earlier in the Spring. It is my official race sports bra. I love it.  It also has removable cups that you put inside it. Trust me, the cups make a difference.

Apple TV

AppleTv

Apple TV was actually Angry Husband’s Christmas gift last year from my mom.  I use it as much as he does.  After asking around, not that many people know about Apple TV.  It has really changed our life. I use it mostly for turning on my iTunes with our surround sound, and/or putting on movies for Angry Toddler.  Angry Toddler can visually see what movies we have on Apple TV, and tell me what he wants to watch.  I love Angry Toddler watching Apple Tv, because we don’t have to forward through all the commercials. I’m sure you’ve bought a DVD lately, and seen that code for “digital copy”. Well you can input the code into Apple TV. I promise to do an instruction vlog about Apple TV soon.
