Friday Favorites: Pre-BlogHer Link Party

Next weekend I will be in San Diego attending the BlogHer Conference. I will be hanging out with my roommates Kelly and Laurie. This will be my 3rd BlogHer Conference and their first.  BlogHer can be a bit overwhelming just because there will be a ton of people attending (over 3000), and it can get chaotic.

I wrote a humorous post over a week ago comparing Blog Conferences and Sorority Rush, but really, it is not that scary. I think the #1 thing that you can do while at a conference is meet people and introduce yourself.

So let me introduce myself!

AngryJulie in Action by ForTheMommas dot comI’m Julie, and sometimes people call me “Angry Julie”.

I’m in my mid 30′s, married, and have a 6 year old son. I live in Orange County, CA. No, I am not a Real Housewife of Orange County. I’m not sure that I can even qualify to be a Housewife. I work full-time outside of the home. Amongst the chaos of having a 6 year old and working, I like to take photos. I am a Nikon girl, so don’t try to convert me to that other brand that starts with a “C”.

I like to dress up like a girly girl at blog conferences so you might see me in dresses. When I’m on my own time, I’m usually wearing jeans, t-shirts, and my Rainbow flip flops.

This picture was taken of me last year. I really need to get a new profile picture. I’m a year older now, and not quite as tan. I even use a different camera.

I hope to meet you while at BlogHer. Please come introduce yourself!! I promise to be nice….

I figure that you might want to meet other people attending BlogHer 2011 also. I’m starting this today so that you can go and check out the blogs and sites of other attendees.

So if you are going to BlogHer, please link up, and visit some other bloggers and Twitter peeps whom are attending.

Our First Day in New Orleans

Last Wednesday morning, I got up at the crack o’ dawn, 3:15am.  Tiffany had scheduled our flight to New Orleans at 7:05am in San Diego.  I was able to find my way to Tiffany’s house in the dark, and we made it to the airport.  I think we were both half asleep as we descended on our way to Las Vegas, and then New Orleans.  We checked into our hotel, Chateau Bourbon, and then headed towards The French Quarter.  The main reason that we headed towards The French Quarter is to go to the French Market, and more specifically Café Du Mondé.  We were in search of beignets.

Cafe Du Monde BeignetsWhile we savored our beignets, we enjoyed some local musicians and a little “street performance”.  It was the perfect combo for a warm afternoon in New Orleans, and our first day of the trip.

Local Musicians performing in The French Market, New OrleansWe were in no hurry so we took some time and went sight seeing in The French Quarter.  You can see some of the pictures that I took below.

Random knick knacks in New OrleansNew Orleans is a pretty eclectic city.  Tiffany looks awesome in sunglasses, and well, you never know what kind of knick knacks that you may find in all of those tourist spots along the way.

We took a different way back and walked down Canal Street, which has stores and restaurants along both sides of the street.  And the best part was the streetcars going down the middle of the street.  I never got a chance to ride the streetcars, but they only cost $1.25 each way.

Tiffany and I arrived back at our room, and Ciaran had arrived.  We all decided that we wanted a really good meal on our first night in town. Per the recommendation of Alexandra, we headed towards Galatoire’s Restaurant.  The food and service were amazing.  We all finished our dinner off with a dessert.  I had warm pecan cake with coffee ice cream.

Dessert was soo delicious. This is officially #foodcationThe restaurant was in the middle of Bourbon Street, which was wide awake with activity when we left.  It was quite entertaining.  The only thing that I could compare it to, was Las Vegas on steroids…

I just had to include the last picture, for shock value.  It was the perfect ending to a really long day.  We headed back to the hotel and went to bed.  It was a great first day in New Orleans.

I will be back with more stories and photos, later this week…

A tribe, a kinship, a social group

I will be attending my second Blissdom Conference at the end of this month.  This will be my eighth blogging conference.  I even created my own verb to represent last year, “conferencing”.  I love connecting with all of the bloggers that I’ve met through various social networks.

In addition to attending Blissdom11′, I will be one of the Official Conference Photographers, and the Newcomer or Newbie Tribe Leader.  As an Official Photographer, I will be sure to get your best smiles, and maybe even some bloopers.  I have photographed three conferences and a party in the past year, so I’ve found the best way to get photos in candidly.  You never know when you will want or need that photo of you and your blog hero for the future post, or even recap post. So if you are attending Blissdom, be sure to find me and my camera. If you know anything about cameras, or if you are a camera snob, you should know, I shoot Nikon, and yes, that is my real camera strap.

The "Angry Julie" camera set-up

Amongst my wandering, chatting, and photo snapping,  I will be mentoring and guiding the Newcomers, or Conference Newbies, or Blissdom Newbies.  My first rule is “don’t take yourself too serious”.  We are all bloggers, and we may be more successful than some, or even just beginning.  We all have our own history, and our own background.  Just because you are talking to “another mommy blogger”, you may not realize that this woman is an attorney, or maybe holds an MBA.  My friend, Tamara of The {Un}Experienced Mom and Blog Conference Newbie was supposed to be the Newbie Tribe Leader, before she found out that she was moving right around the conference. Tamara and I met at Blissdom last year, after a session and instantly bonded over some of my “Julie-isms” and thoughts over things.  We also like to rock a headband. And Tamara is a smart cookie, in her day job.  I hope that I can fill Tamara’s shoes with all my wisdom and humor.

I thought I would share my Blissdom Recap Posts from last year, so you can get a little taste of what I saw at Blissdom10′.

If you are newbie, you can put {newbie} behind your name, or experienced, you can put {Blissdom09′, Blissdom10′}, and if you are also following a certain Niche Tribe, you can put your niche {Photography}.

Come on now, don’t be shy, link up with your blog or site name!
