I Support My School My Way

This is year two of school for us. Angry Kid is starting First Grade this week.  It is amazing how much he has changed in the past year. Honestly, it is amazing how much I’ve changed.

I volunteered in his Kindergarten class every Monday for two hours last year.  Sure, I had things that came up, like sleeping in, etc. but I never missed a day.  I think it is important for my son to see me there, helping out. Plus, I got to know the kids who were in his class, a little bit better.

I am involved in the PTA at our school also, and this year’s 2011-2012 Jogathon Chair. I’m a little crazy, I know. I volunteered at last year’s jogathon by taking pictures, etc. to see how it all runs.  I hope that I can live up to everyone’s expectations this year. I just realized that I never finished editing the 700 photos that I took.

While, I was at Mom 2.0 in the spring, I met Karen from VolunteerSpot. VolunteerSpot is a great space online that helps you coordinate volunteers virtually.  You won’t have to send out those “reply now, asap, and reply all” emails anymore with this site.  And even better, no phone lists. There is nothing worse than calling everyone you know to help out with an event.

My youngest boy is the same age (and I wrote about him starting 1st grade today on 5 Minutes for Mom!). It sound slike you've got a great school!

Love Volunteerspot! You are crazy ms. jog-a-thon chair. I'm telling you, the only thing that made it tolerable was the eye candy we mom's had with the marines who volunteered to run with the kiddo's. I highly suggest looking into it ;-)

I'm the fund-raising chairperson at our schools and am always searching for ways to get more volunteers and good ideas from other groups. I have to check it out! How does your jog-a-thon work? I've been wanting to get parents and kids excited about healthier ways to make money. We've considered a digital dance-a-thon during the winter months but we need another big activity.
